Volume 30 Buckinghamshire Glebe Terriers, 1578-1640

edited with an introduction by Michael Reed 295+xxviii pp (1997)

Glebe terriers are detailed surveys of church property which parish incumbents were first required to submit to the diocesan authorities in 1571. They are a particularly valuable source for the study of place names, open field agriculture and rural housing. Full transcripts are given of 146 terriers, mostly dated 1605-7 and 1639, covering some 116 parishes in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, held in Buckinghamshire Record Office.
