Volume 29 Inquests and Indictments from Late Fourteenth Century Buckinghamshire

edited with an introduction by Lesley Boatwright 336+lvxi pp (1995)

The "superior eyre" held at Wycombe in 1389 by the court of Kings Bench on one of its infrequent visits outside Westminster is the subject of this volume. Its three sections comprise a calendar of the rolls of coroners' inquests, 1375-1389, on which the court acted; indictments against offenders prepared by the various hundreds and towns in the county; and extracts of related later entries in the court record, 1389-1392. The result is a wonderfully detailed tapestry of medieval life.
