Volume 19. The Courts of the Archdeaconry of Buckingham, 1483-1523

edited with an introduction by G.R. Elvey 449+xxx pp (1975)

These are among the earliest surviving archdeaconry court records for the diocese of Lincoln. They include complete transcripts of about 240 wills and six inventories. The proceedings and earlier wills are in Latin, but there are more than a hundred later wills in English, giving a vivid picture of the farming community and its problems. The introduction supplies the Buckinghamshire background and a commentary on the text.
